There is good news ladies and gentlemen – new studies have shown that soothing your winter blues could really be as easy and as simple as a walk in the park. Well, if you do it all in the Autumn that is. Although forty percent of us feel down when the temperature goes down during the red, green and orange colours of the season, apparently the colours and the cold are perfectly matched to make you feel better in the very depths of your SAD slump.

I guess it doesn’t hurt to find out more, right?

According to studies, there are two things that brighten up your day about a fresh walk out in the open air. For a start, the fresh air and exercise will do you the world of good. Secondly… it’s all about the colours! Apparently colour therapy really does work!

Blue Hues…

It’s the blue hues in the autumn sky that help make people feel calmer in situations where stress is high. According to the UK based studies, waterside walks alongside evening darker shades of blue are more preferable…

Blue is actually one of the most common colours found in colour therapy for conditions such as winter blues, depression, stress and anxiety, and it is said to really help to calm and relax the body and mind.

This is something that can easily be used within your home to lighten the mood too. Perhaps theres something to be said about switching up your interior design this winter?

Evergreen…

Over fifty percent of the people asked said that it was the green tones that made them feel more relaxed and at ease. The darker green scattered within the pine trees, and the hilltops with their richer shades. Again, there’s nothing to stop you using these warmer tones in your home, but the easiest way to get a rich intake of healthy autumn colours is to go outside and go for a walk. Do you have a dog? Find some local woodlands (ensure they are safe, of course) and take the dog out! The colours will help to boost your mood, and even if you can’t get out and about to enjoy those green hues, you could always again, add a touch of rich green to your interior design.

It’s amazing what a bit of nature can do for your health and well being!

Optimistic Orange…

Of course, the orange colours you would normally find in the autumn can help to boost your mood too. It’s the same colour as the sun for a start, and psychologists have found a link between this colour and more alertness and concentration.

Red, Red, Red…

Red is another powerful colour in the autumn days and nights, but this can come with its fair share of negative thoughts too. It’s a very powerful colour usually associated with passion and romance, but when used in the wrong places it can invoke anger – something you probably don’t want to deal with when you are feeling pretty rough as it is.

Mellow Yellow…

Yellow is another uplifting colours you can enjoy during the ‘fall’ season. It’s bright, uplifting, reminds many people of summer and although not quite as bright during this season as it is in spring and summer, it can still have the same positive effect on your mind and mood.

Sometimes going back to nature is all you need to get that helping hand you need. In fact, nature has shown to be a very powerful, all-natural remedy for a lot of things so whether it’s the calming influences of the beautiful Autumn colours that you infuse into your house, or just a leisurely evening stroll enjoying the beautiful and shade-filled trees around your area, Autumn colours really are the right way to battle those blues!
